Classic gear, fresh modern recording

WHAT WE OFFER

Frog Productions is a boutique recording, mixing and production studio for professional musicians, composers and producers. We combine the flexibility of digital recording with real instruments, amplifiers, analogue processing and an API console, choosing the approach that best serves the music.

Recording

Start with the source

A good recording begins before the signal reaches the desk. We take time over the choice of instrument, amplifier, microphone, placement and recording space, with the aim of capturing the character of the performance rather than trying to manufacture it afterwards.

From vocals and acoustic instruments to piano, Hammond, guitars, amplifiers and analogue keyboards, the emphasis is on getting the sound right at source.

Mixing

Character, clarity and depth

Mixing at our studio is about bringing the individual elements of a recording together without losing what made them interesting in the first place.

Sessions can move between the precision and flexibility of the digital environment and the API console and analogue outboard, using each where it contributes something worthwhile.

Production

Another pair of ears

Production can mean very different things from one project to another. It might involve developing an arrangement, finding the right instrumental texture, replacing or adding a part, experimenting with sounds or recognising that the track already has everything it needs.

The approach is collaborative rather than prescriptive. The purpose is not to impose a house sound, but to help identify and strengthen what is individual about the music.

Collaboration

Work Together

You don't have to record at Frog to make the studio part of your project. MIDI performances can become recordings of a real piano or analogue keyboard; DI guitar and bass tracks can be re-amped through our amplifiers and cabinets; additional parts can be recorded; and sessions created elsewhere can be mixed through the Frog recording chain.

It is a practical way for musicians, composers, producers and studios working in different locations to draw on Frog's instruments, equipment and recording environment without having to be in the same room.
